Last weekend we took a side trip a couple hours south down to Byron Bay. Byron Bay is a small beach town with good restaurants and shopping. It rained every day we were there except the last day when, of course, it was beautiful and sunny. In between rainstorms we rented bikes for the day and rode them up to the lighthouse and around to a couple of parks. It’s been about 10 years or more since I’ve ridden a bike so it took me a little while to get used to it again.
Since the weather was shit, we were forced (totally against our will) to go shopping and eat at all the yummy restaurants for most of the time we were there. My favorite was a place right next to where we were staying that had giant homemade donuts that were hot no matter what time you went. I had one every day we were there. So bad but so good!
I also bought some jewelry from a couple local designers. I talked to one of them for a long time about how she got into designing jewelry. She said it was pretty easy to start so maybe I’ll be a jewelry designer when I get home. Sounds good to me.
We came back to Brisbane on Sunday night and checked into a different hostel because we didn’t like the one we were at before we went to Byron. Since then we’ve just been hanging out. We go to the State Library every day because the internet there is free. Today we rode on the big ferris wheel across the river. We may be kind of bored at the moment but we have some exciting things coming up after Jess gets here like the Whitsunday Islands and Steve Irwin’s zoo. I heard a rumor that you can take a picture with Steve and Terry in front of a green screen so I’m hoping that’s true. I don’t want Bindi to be in it though cause she’s so annoying.
